• Woodland Park dentist teaming up with Knights of Columbus for food drive
  
  
  WOODLAND PARK - Dentists are particularly known for cleaning and repairing teeth, but now one local dentist will also be known for helping to provide those in need with the food that those teeth chow on.
  
  Dr. Jeffrey Ruggiero, of Woodland Park Dental Associates, is spearheading a food drive that will benefit the Knights of Columbus Council 3835 in Little Falls. The food drive runs from now through the end of November.
  
  A member of the Knights expressed a need and Ruggiero was happy to help. The dentist said he likes the Knights of Columbus because it is a local organization. "It kind of just fell into our lap and it worked out perfectly," he said.
  
  Despite food being a basic necessity, more than 70,000 people and 23 percent of children are food insecure in Passaic County, according CUMAC, a leading nearby food pantry.
  
  The food from this drive will go to La Vida Childcare Centers in Paterson, which is affiliated the charity Straight and Narrow.
  
  David Mallonnee, a member of the Knights and a past Grand Knight, appreciates the effort.
  
  "It’s a great thing that they’re doing," he said. "This is totally unexpected. They volunteered to do this."
  
  Non-perishables may be dropped off at Woodland Park Dental Associates, 205 Browertown Rd., between now and Nov. 30.
